Google Chrome Twitter Extension Round-Up

A couple of the current buzzwords these days are app and plugin.

I want to turn people’s attention to extension, as in Google’s version of plugins for Chrome, which is, in my opinion, the best browser out. It’s the fastest to start, renders websites the quickest, is consistently updated (behind the scenes, too), and, best of all, doesn’t have to be restarted to install extensions (unlike Firefox, which does for its plugins).

There are myriad of extensions out there to make your browsing more efficient by corralling your open tabs; that check performance of web sites and applications; determine the speed and SEO standards of your website; sync bookmarks across all your computers and browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera, Safari); SSL security (protect your accounts from being hijacked by FireSheep); and even some to quicken your Googling!

Right now, though, i want to focus on Twitter.

Being that i spend an ungodly amount of hours answering “What’s happening?” while searching for blogging topics and reading @Jesus_M_Christ’s hilariously “blasphemous” tweets, it was paramount i found a way to curtail the fun (just a little) and increase productivity instead.

And i’ve found the solution with a couple of extensions, namely Chromed Bird and Tweetings for Chrome. I use each for separate Twitter account (private and public, respectively). They both allow me to read my lists, to RT (original and new versions), shorten links with my bit.ly account, and to autocomplete when i @ someone.

The best attribute they both possess, though, is that they do not interfere with browsing.

Like all Chrome Extensions, they live as small icons on the top-right of the browser and will “drop down” into view upon clicking, allowing for quick Twitter access, and disappear once you navigate to another tab or the browser.

It’s relatively seamless.
