Lose Your Blackberry (or iPhone) Contacts?

We’ve all been there: the Blackberry drops, its battery pops out, and after waiting ten minutes to restart, we realize all of our contacts are gone! We may have all of our texts, but when they’re identified by 10-digit numbers that might as well be random, our lives are in shambles!

There is no reason to be worried, I will show you how to prevent this. Well, at least to reverse the problem once it occurs again (and we know it will happen, regardless if we have a Bold, Curve, Torch or, gasp, Pearl).

The simplest and quickest way is to use Google Sync. Not only can you backup your BlackBerry contacts, but also the address book on your PC, Mac, Linux box, Symbian, iPhones, etc. Your calendars can be synchronized, too!

Since millions of us have a Gmail (or Google Apps) account, the process will be even faster.

You’ll start by choosing the platform or phone and then download the Google Sync application. After filling out necessary login info for your Gmail account, you will seamlessly have your contacts synchronized.

And for my fellow Outlook or BES users, don’t fret: Google will warn you of any conflicts with Contacts or Calendar entries, and synchronize accordingly.

Now, if you ever lose your contacts, or receive a new phone, all you need to do is reinstall Google Sync and repeat the process.

Oh, and be sure to regularly export (every two months) your Gmail contacts list and save it on a hard drive or a USB key just in case there’s no internet access. Trust me, you might really need that number!

As usual, RT or Like or whatever, if this was helpful :-)
